God's Word for today is in 2 Chronicles 7:14 which states, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven..." Imagine the number of those called by His name everywhere. In every house, in every church, in every nook and crany on earth, today. Strange as it seems, God's first demand on us isn't to pray. Neither is it to give. But for His people to "...humble themselves..." God truly calls for humility! We can humble ourselves before the Lord, willingly, like Ahab (1Kings 21:29). Or be humbled like Nebuchadnezzar, forcefully (Daniel 4:28-37). Humility should be topmost in our walk with God and all men. Without it, our prayers, fasting, etcetera amount to nothing. In Luke 18:11-14, the manners and attitude of two people (a Pharisee and a scribe) who came up to the temple to pray were described. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted." What a way to pray! Your manners and attitudes count heavily.   Prayer Father, I come before you today like a publican. Not a modern-day Pharisee. Expose and destroy every manner and attitude of pride in my every day walk with You and other men. In Jesus precious name.
