Contend in Battle

A spiritual daughter of mine recently queried why she has to fight for virtually every notable accomplishment she ever made. She fought before graduating from the uni. She fought health issues ladies of her age didn’t bother about. Before she qualified in her profession, several male supervisors/examiners were hell-bent on sleeping with her; how she fought! Extended family members who wanted to seize the inheritance left behind by the late mother (being her only child) are not a few. Why is life this tough and, sometimes, hard, are some of her questions begging for answers? Though she received victories, truth is, she has continued to struggle and fight in many other aspects of life. Does this sound like a description of your situation? Why is this so? In this exhortation, I’ll provide three reasons.

The foundation from whence we evolve will determine our kind of battles. If your earthly parental figures, for example, were involved in occult, witchcraft and more (and proceeds of these used to bring you up), you surely have a big battle on hand! Now compare with a child whose parents engage in genuine service of God and humanity with all of their endowments. Two children, different foundations; both category of children, now, born-again! Without a doubt, one will have battles while the other may not. Power of foundation, isn’t it? Don’t despise yours, therefore; take time to find out what transpired in yours and do the needful – (Isaiah 51:1) Whatever battles are programmed inside your foundation that you don’t deal with, will surely deal with you in the future. This is a fact of life!

Another reason to contend is that life is a severe battlefield; failure to press in this arena make the pilgrim a victim automatically. Agreed God gave us all that pertains unto life and godliness, spiritually-speaking, these won’t manifest without our contending in battle. These powers rebelled in heaven and proceeded to make the domain God gave mankind part of theirs. Should we then throw in the towel and accept defeat? A resounding no! “Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle(Deuteronomy 2:24)

Another important reason to fight is because of who God is. Scriptures in Exodus chapter 15 verse 3 declares, “The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.” If, indeed, God is our father, we ought to brace up and, fight, like Him. Fight. Contend in battle. Victory is assured in Jesus name!
